The Scary Snow Story

Some of you may have heard, and some not yet . . . Friday was a challenging day with an April snowstorm. When we awoke it was coming down wet and heavy, but nothing out of the ordinary. Derek headed into work and took the kids to school. He slipped all the way there in the car, but this is typical snow driving for our neighborhood. As the day went on the snow fell faster and heavier and we had over 1.5 ft by lunchtime. The school announced it was closing early, so Derek headed out from work (he had my SUV) to pick them up. Parts of the interstate were closed, there was another section that was in grid-lock traffic due to a semi-truck accident, etc. Derek made it to the school and got the kids. Yet, their trip home became an adventure. He called to tell me that the car was stuck in a neighborhood near the school. They were going to walk (at least 2 miles). This involves Derek carrying Davis (25lbs), Mae in her carseat (at least 40lbs) and wearing his backpack. The snow was nearly up to his knees. I tried and tried to get our other car out of the driveway, shoveling like mad to get the car out . . . only to get it stuck in the middle of the driveway. I was preparing to walk to meet them.

Yet, a HERO came along! A man who owned a John Deere tractor that was clearing out neighbor driveways in the area came upon Derek and offered to give him a ride. Derek had to have journeyed at least half a mile or more before this man came along.

Above is a picture of their arrival. Davis is riding on the man's lap . . . and Mae is hanging out the side of the tractor with Derek . . . . WHAT an adventure. This man is a hero to our family . . . .

Notice where Mae's carseat is in the picture

Davis and Dad watched Mr Tractor man clear out some of our driveway too. Notice where the snow is on Derek's legs! What a heavy amount of snow!

I took Mae into the house and uncovered her from Derek's jacket, her blanket, etc. to check that she was alright from hanging outside of the tractor during the ride home and she was SOUND ASLEEP! She opened her eyes and looked at me here so much to say "hey mom."

Quite an adventure...Monument is a happening place! Now Davis can tell his kids that he had to walk home from school when the snow was up to his chest!

A taste of the Colorado life!
